'2023년 세계기도일 예배'가 3월 5일(일) 오후 4시부터 아리조나 한인장로교회(조용호 목사)에서 진행됐다.
미주한인교회여성연합 아리조나 지회(지회장 김은수 장로)가 주최한 올해 '아리조나 세계기도일 예배'엔 아리조나 한인교회 연합회 회장단 및 임원진 그리고 각 교회 성도 등 총 80여명이 참석했다.
전세계 180여개국 교회 여성들이 매년 3월 첫째주 금요일에 함께 모여 세계 평화와 화해를 위해 기도해온 '세계기도일예배'는 세계에서 가장 오래된 초교파 여성기도운동으로 1887년 메리 제임스가 미국에 온 유럽/아시아 이주민들을 위해 기도를 시작한 것이 시초가 됐으며 이후 1927년 '세계기도의 날'이 정해졌다.
올해 '세계기도일 예배'에서는 "내가 너희 믿음에 대해 들었다(엡 1:15~19)"는 말씀을 주제로 대상국인 대만을 위해 기도하는 시간이 마련됐다.
예배는 입례와 촛불점화를 함으로써 시작됐다.
회장 김은수 장로가 인사말을 전했고 세계기도일과 대만 관련 영상이 상영됐다.
예식은 예배로의 부름, 고백의 기도, 용서의 확신, 말씀 나눔과 선포, 여성들의 이야기, 응답의 기도, 봉헌, 중보기도, 파송과 축복의 순으로 진행됐다.
말씀 나눔에서 교회연합회 회장 조용호 목사는 "하나님이 누구신지를 분명히 알 수 있도록 하나님에게 지혜와 계시의 정신을 주시옵소서라고 간구해야 하는 걸 기억해야 한다"고 강조하고 "하나님을 바라본다면 어떤 어려운 상황이라도 잘 이겨나갈 수 있을 것"이라고 말했다.
지난 시절 세계 곳곳에서 있었던 남녀차별, 인종차별을 지적한 조 목사는 "지금도 놀라운 변화를 일으키시는 하나님의 뜨거운 능력을 믿어야 한다"고 권면했다.
4월 9일 십자가의교회(양성일 목사)에서 교회연합회 주최 '부활절 예배 찬양제'가 열릴 것임을 알린 조용호 목사는 "1년에 한 번이라도 아이들에게 예수님이 우리를 위해 이 세상에 오셨다 돌아가셨지만 부활하셨다는 사실을 알려주는 기회가 되면 좋겠다"는 바램을 나타내고 "하나님의 위대한 능력이 대만 여성들은 물론 기도하는 우리 모두에게 보여지길 간절히 소원한다"고 덧붙였다.
5명 대만 여성들의 삶과 신앙 이야기는 아리조나 각 교회 여성선교회 회원들로 구성된 낭독자들이 준비된 문장을 돌아가며 읽는 방식으로 진행됐다.
봉헌 순서는 양명선 목사(아리조나 에덴교회)가 인도했고, 중보기도가 이어졌다.
'전쟁, 불평등, 폭력, 억압으로 고통당하는 이들을 위하여' '기후위기 극복과 실천을 위하여' '우리 조국 대한민국과 미국이 하나님의 통치하심 아래에 있기를' '코로나 19 변종으로 인하여 고통 속에 있는 이 땅을 위로하시고 완전한 회복이 있기를' '우크라이나 전쟁이 속히 종식되어 그 땅에 평화와 회복이 있기를' 등의 주제를 놓고 교회연합회 임원진 최용성 목사(아리조나 열방교회), 고경훈 목사(은혜교회), 변요셉 목사(피닉스감리교회) 각각 중보기도를 인도했다.
예배는 이성재 목사(아리조나 새생명장로교회) 축도로 마무리 됐다.
지회장 김은수 장로가 광고를 전한 후 2024년부터 아리조나 지회를 새롭게 이끌게 될 민경숙 지회장을 비롯한 임원진 그리고 기존의 임원진들이 함께 인사를 하는 자리도 마련됐다.
새 회장단과 임원진을 위한 김찬홍 목사(아리조나 연합감리교회)의 축복기도로 행사를 마쳤다.
The World Day of Prayer 2023 service was held at the Arizona Korean Presbyterian Church (Pastor Choi Soo-ho) on Sunday, March 5, starting at 4:00 pm.
Organized by the Arizona Chapter of the Women's Federation of Korean American Churches (Elder Kim Eun-soo), this year's Arizona World Prayer Day Service was attended by a total of 80 people, including the presidency and leadership of the Arizona Federation of Korean American Churches and members of each church.
The World Day of Prayer is the world's oldest interdenominational women's prayer movement, which began in 1887 when Mary James began praying for European and Asian immigrants to the United States, and the World Day of Prayer was established in 1927.
At this year's World Day of Prayer service, the theme was "I have heard of your faith (Eph. 1:15-19)" and prayers were offered for the target country, Taiwan.
The service began with baptism and candle lighting.
Elder Kim Eun-soo, president, gave a greeting, and a video about the World Day of Prayer and Taiwan was shown.
The service proceeded in the following order: call to worship, prayer of confession, assurance of forgiveness, sharing and proclamation of the Word, women's stories, prayer of response, consecration, intercession, sending and blessing.
"We must remember to ask God to give us the spirit of wisdom and revelation so that we can clearly see who God is," said Rev. Cho Myung-ho, president of the National Council of Churches, emphasizing that "if we look to God, we will be able to overcome any difficult situation."
Pointing to past instances of sexism and racism in various parts of the world, Rev. Cho exhorted us to "believe in God's passionate power to bring about amazing changes even now."
Announcing the Easter Worship and Praise Festival, which will be held on April 9 at the Church of the Cross (Pastor Yang Yang-il), Pastor Cho expressed his hope that "at least once a year, we can let our children know that Jesus came to this world for us, died, and rose from the dead," and added, "I fervently hope that God's great power will be shown to Taiwanese women and to all of us who pray."
The life and faith stories of the five Taiwanese women were read by a rotating cast of readers comprised of members of the Women's Missionary Society from each of the Arizona churches.
Rev. Myung-Sun Yang (Eden Church, Arizona) led the service, followed by intercessory prayer.
Rev. Yong Sung Choi (Arizona Church of the Nations), Rev. Kyung Hoon Ko (Grace Church), and Rev. Joseph Byun (Phoenix Methodist Church), members of the Church Federation's executive board, led intercessory prayers for the following topics: "For those who suffer from war, inequality, violence, and oppression;" "For the overcoming of the climate crisis and for action;" "For our homeland, the Republic of Korea and the United States of America, to be under the rule of God;" "For the comfort and complete recovery of the land suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic;" and "For the speedy end of the war in Ukraine and for peace and recovery in the land.
The service concluded with a blessing by Rev. Sung Jae Lee (Arizona New Life Presbyterian Church).
After the announcement by Elder Kim Eun-soo, the chapter president, there was an opportunity to introduce the new leadership team, including Kyung-sook Min, who will lead the Arizona chapter starting in 2024, as well as the existing leadership team.
The event concluded with a prayer of blessing by Rev. Chan Hong Kim (Arizona United Methodist Church) for the new leadership and officers.
