지난 2월 24일 금요일에 구세군 글렌데일 교회와 아리조나 노인복지회가 공동으로 주관하는 2023년도 경로대학원이 등록학생 71명과 축하객들이 참여한 가운데 성황리에 시작됐다.
아리조나 교회연합회 회장 조용호 목사의 축복기도로 시작된 개강예배는 구세군 글렌데일 교회 오관근 사관의 말씀 그리고 미라클 우클렐레 팀과 아리조나 춤사위팀의 설장고 축하공연으로 흥겨운 분위기 속에 시작됐다.
이어진 명사초청 강연은 노인복지회의 유영구 회장이 진행했고, 이후 9개의 강좌가 2교시로 나누어 진행됐으며 구세군 교회와 봉사자들이 준비한 푸짐한 점심식사로 첫날을 잘 마쳤다.
9개의 강좌는 골프, 탁구, 난타, 음악(우클렐레), 서예, 영어, 건강, 핸드폰 사용법, 빙고반으로 각각 나누어 실시됐다.
골프는 워싱턴주와 아리조나주 챔피언 경력의 킴오 강사의 지도로 인기를 끌었고 아리조나 춤사위팀의 유정선 강사가 이끈 난타반도 힘찬 북소리와 함께 경로대학원의 분위기를 고조시켰다.
또한 특별한 관심을 가지고 많은 학생이 참여한 강좌 중에 건강반이 큰 인기가 있었는데, 강좌를 이끈 김미나 강사는 관절염과 신경통에 좋은 방법을 소개하기도 했다.
9개의 강좌 모두가 커뮤니티의 봉사자 강사들(골프-킴오, 탁구-오관근, 난타-유정선, 음악(우클렐레)-송은옥, 서예-도병일, 영어-강건재, 건강-김미나/이어비가일/오미애, 핸드폰 사용법-윤국선, 빙고반-최초희/전수연)로 진행되어 주최하는 구세군 글렌데일 교회의 오관근 사관과 노인복지회의 유영구 회장은 깊은 감사의 뜻을 전했다.
4월 7일까지 7주간 진행되는 이번 경로대학원은 5주째인 3월 24일부터 25일까지 로스앤젤레스로 수학여행을 계획하고 있어 여러 학생들의 관심을 고조시키고 있다.
이번 수학여행에서는 LA 근교에 있는 게티 박물관과 김스 전기 등을 방문하며 부에나파크 근처의 한인 명소들과 돌아오는 길에는 아웃렛에도 들리는 등 즐겁고 유익한 시간들을 계획하고 있다.
9개 강좌로 시작한 이번 경로대학원은 노인복지회 사무총장이며 작사작곡가인 안남복씨가 기타 강좌를 맡게 돼 두번째 주인 3월 3일부터는 기타반 개설로 10개의 강좌가 열리게 된다.
지난 10여년간 구세군 교회가 단독으로 주관하던 경로대학원이 올해부터는 노인복지회와 공동으로 주관하게 되면서 더욱 많은 커뮤니티의 봉사와 후원을 받게 됐다.
오관근 사관과 유영구 회장은 모든 커뮤니티의 후원과 봉사에 깊은 감사의 뜻을 전하는 동시에 계속적인 관심과 후원을 부탁했다.

The Class of 2023, co-hosted by The Salvation Army Glendale Church and the Arizona Council on Aging, kicked off with a bang on Friday, Feb. 24, with 71 enrolled students and well-wishers in attendance.
The opening worship service began with a blessing from the Rev. Sung Ho Cho, president of the Arizona Council of Churches, followed by a message from The Salvation Army Glendale Church's Kwan Geun Oh, and performances by the Miracle Ukulele Team and the Arizona Dance Team.
A guest lecture was given by Mr. Yoo Young-koo, President of the Senior Citizens Welfare Association, followed by nine lectures divided into two classes, and a hearty lunch prepared by the Salvation Army church and volunteers concluded the first day.
The nine courses were divided into golf, table tennis, nanta, music (ukulele), calligraphy, English, health, cell phone usage, and bingo.
Golf was popular under the guidance of instructor Kim Oh, a champion in Washington and Arizona, and the nanta class led by instructor Yoo Jung-sun of the Arizona dance team also raised the atmosphere of the pathway graduate school with the sound of powerful drums.
The health class was also very popular, with many students participating with special interest, and Kim Mina, who led the class, introduced good methods for arthritis and nerve pain.
All nine courses were taught by volunteer instructors from the community (Golf - Kim Oh, Table Tennis - Oh Kwan-geun, Nanta - Yoo Jung-sun, Music (Ukulele) - Song Eun-ok, Calligraphy - Do Byeong-il, English - Kang Geon-jae, Health - Kim Mina, Earbigail, and Oh Mi-ae, Cell Phone - Yoon Kook-sun, and Bingo - Choi Choi and Jeon Soo-yeon), and the Salvation Army Glendale Church and Yoo Young-gu, President of the Senior Welfare Council, expressed their deep gratitude.
The program, which will be held for seven weeks until April 7, is planning a school trip to Los Angeles on March 24 and 25, the fifth week, which is raising the interest of many students.
The students will visit the Getty Museum and Kim's Electric in the Los Angeles suburbs, as well as Korean-American attractions in Buena Park and outlets on the way back.
The graduate school, which started with nine courses, will have 10 courses with the opening of a guitar class on March 3, the second week, as Mr. Ahn Nam-bok, secretary general of the Senior Citizens Welfare Association and a songwriter, will take charge of the guitar course.
The graduate school for the elderly, which was organized solely by the Salvation Army Church for the past 10 years, will be co-organized with the Senior Citizens Welfare Association from this year onward, allowing it to receive more community service and support.
Officer Oh Kwan-geun and Chairman Yoo Young-gu expressed their deep gratitude for the support and service of all the communities and asked for their continued interest and support.
