아리조나 한인 상공회의소 제17대 신임회장에 이성호 씨 당선

 

 

아리조나주 한인 상공회의소 제17대 회장에 이성호 씨가 당선됐다.

상공회의소 선거관리위원회(김건상 위원장)은 2월 13일(월) 오후 12시 30분 호돌이 한식당에서 아리조나 한인 상공회의소 제17대 회장 당선증을 이성호 씨에게 전달했다.

이날 마성일 아리조나주 한인회 회장 그리고 선거관리위원으로도 활동한 유영구 한인 노인복지회 회장 등이 함께 배석한 가운데 김건상 위원장은 "지난 1월 28일까지 회장 선거 후보등록을 진행한 결과 이성호 씨가 단독후보로 등록을 마쳤고 '상공회의소에 2년 이상 봉사한 자로서 법률상 결격사유가 없는 자' 등의 조건을 충족해 예정됐던 선거일자인 1월 30일 월요일 선관위는 이성호 씨를 당선인으로 결정했다"고 밝혔다.

1994년 출범한 한인 상공회의소는 지난 2017년까지 한인 커뮤니티를 위해 다방면의 활발한 활동을 펼치며 16대 회장까지 배출했지만 이후 새 회장단을 선출하지 못했고 코로나19 팬데믹까지 겹치면서 5년 이상 휴지기를 겪어야만 했다.

코로나 사태가 어느 정도 진정된 올해부터 뜻있는 일부 몇몇 인사들이 상공회의소 재건을 위한 논의를 나누기도 한 것으로 알려졌다.

제17대 한인 상공회의소 신임회장에 당선돼 올해 3월부터 2025년 2월말까지 임기를 수행할 이성호 씨는 2017년부터 2년 간 아리조나 한인회 회장을 역임한 바 있으며 그보다 이전인 2015년엔 제14대 한인 상공회의소 이사장직을 맡기도 했었다.

또한 2010년 한인 체육회 회장도 지낸 이성호 회장은 2011년 오렌지 카운티에서 열린 미주체전에 아리조나 대표팀을 이끌고 참가해 종합 3위의 좋은 성적을 거두는 성과를 이뤘다.

이외에 이 회장은 2017년에는 민주평화통일자문회의 오렌지.샌디에고 지역협의회 산하 피닉스.라스베가스 지회장을 지내기도 하는 등 주요 한인단체장직을 두루 거친 이력을 지니고 있다.

상공회의소 제17대 이성호 신임회장은 "침체된 상공회 활성화를 위해 출마하게 됐다. 오랜 제 비즈니스 경험을 바탕으로 후배 상공인들을 돕도록 노력하겠다"고 말하고 "회원 간 상호이익에 가장 중점을 두겠지만 더 나아가 한인사회, 지역사회를 위한 봉사도 하겠다"는 다짐을 밝혔다.

한편 상공회의소의 대표적인 이벤트였던 '동포대잔치'는 올해 아리조나주 한인회와 함께 공동주최한 뒤 이후론 그 주관을 한인회로 이전한다는 계획이다.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sung Ho Lee has been elected as the 17th president of the Korean American Chamber of Commerce of Arizona.

 

The Chamber's Election Committee (chaired by Gunsang Kim) presented Mr. Lee with his certificate of election as the 17th President of the Arizona Korean American Chamber of Commerce on Monday, February 13, at 12:30 p.m. at Hodol Korean Restaurant.

 

In the presence of Mr. Ma Sung-il, President of the Korean American Chamber of Commerce of Arizona, and Mr. Yoo Young-gu, President of the Korean American Senior Citizens Welfare Association, who also served as a member of the Election Committee, Chairman Kim said, "As a result of the registration of candidates for the presidential election until January 28, Mr. Lee Sung-ho completed the registration as a sole candidate and met the conditions of 'those who have served the chamber for more than two years and have no legal disqualification,' the Election Committee decided to elect Mr. Lee Sung-ho on Monday, January 30, the scheduled election date."

 

The Korean American Chamber of Commerce, which was founded in 1994, was active in various activities for the Korean American community until 2017, when it elected its 16th president, but has not been able to elect a new leadership since then and has been on hiatus for more than five years, coinciding with the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

Since this year, when the pandemic has somewhat subsided, some prominent figures have reportedly been discussing rebuilding the chamber.

 

Mr. Lee, who was elected as the 17th president of the Korean American Chamber of Commerce and will serve from March this year until the end of February 2025, previously served as the president of the Arizona Korean American Association for two years, starting in 2017, and before that as the president of the 14th Korean American Chamber of Commerce in 2015.

 

Mr. Lee, who also served as president of the Korean American Athletic Association in 2010, led the Arizona team to the 2011 Americas Games in Orange County, where they finished third overall.

 

In addition, Lee has served as the chairman of the Phoenix and Las Vegas chapters of the Orange and San Diego Regional Councils of the National Advisory Council for Democracy, Peace and Unification in 2017.

 

"I am running to revitalize a stagnant chamber of commerce. Based on my long business experience, I will try to help the younger members of the chamber," he said, adding, "I will focus on the mutual benefit of the members, but I will also serve the Korean community and the local community."

 

Meanwhile, the chamber's signature event, the "Compatriot Feast," will be co-hosted with the Korean American Association of Arizona this year and then transferred to the Korean American Association.
